(Cont. from Part 1)
-What is this?, you surely know more than the others, Thomas asked Crazy Pops.
know nothing! I was about to ask you!- C.P. replied, his eyes wild with exuberance.
-Well, hell. Somebody knows, don't you think? -Thomas insisted.
-yeah, who do you wanna ask first?
-maybe we shouldn't ask, maybe we just count our good fortune. -and hope..." IT LASTS!" (both at once, laughing together)... And they walked away still chuckling.
Conversations like that were heard everywhere. People's curiosity hit a new level but the sense of peace remained and could be felt for miles around. Such calm. Such bliss.
But it didn't take long for logistics to become a problem. As folks from everywhere kept pouring in, the land began to suffer. In less than two weeks, the place was chaotic with people, entire families and their encampments making it so it became harder and harder to find any space near the temple at all.
No pauses, no breaks. A continuous flow of humanity from all over the world now.
Do you think bad news travels fast? This traveled faster.
It was bound to happen. Fights. The usual plight of the spoiled and the impatient. For a shorter distance to the temple, or for an easier walk; for quicker access to the two wells still functioning. For any small advantage, they fought. It was so much worse when it rained. Almost felt like the ground melted and moved. Once it became torrencial, it spelled disaster.
It didn't take long for the tech people's huge tent to get invaded by hordes of soaked souls seeking shelter. Hence more fights.
The technicians had already foreseen that taking place, so they hired extra security. It didn't work. They were overrun like toy soldiers on a board.
The situation was insurmountable at times and becoming more so as the hours passed.
It didn't take long for the military to show up.
They came to restore order quickly.
It didn't take long either for them to ask for back up and reinforcements. So much for quickly restoring order.
It rained for days. It became a completely different scene. The wind made it all so much worse.
Then, to make matters even more difficult, portable gas stoves were forbidden.
-Have you heard the news, asked Michael, the giant, an ex wrestler with osteoarthritis.
-what news is that, now? replied Sissy, everybody's angel nurse.
-they've figured it out! Don't say anything, keep it to yourself, shhhhh…!, continued Michael planting his index finger in front of his skinny lips.
-they know. They know what's happening…
-no, really?? Seriously? What do you mean, when? -Sissy said, besides herself.
-shhhhh! Don't speak loud! You must keep it down.
-yes, it's true. The nerds know what's happening. All of it. The how's the when's the what's, everything. They know everything.
Sissy was speechless. She wanted to speak but now was afraid of it. And she has all these questions...
They both looked around like they've done something wrong and then glanced at each other, Michael nodding his head, yes.
NOT that it was ever anything even close to humdrum... but I can feel the excitement of the story building. Can’t wait for the finale!
Much improvement
