Red herring. The danger isn’t the terminator future, the danger is a world flooded with cheap simulacra of actual human creations.

Yes. The average folk doesn't know what to expect. And creators like us have to keep a watchful eye.

Under capitalism human creators don’t stand a chance against much faster, much cheaper AI pesudo “creators.”

I understand what you're saying. But I write for the love of writing and the preferred way to express myself. If you're talking about profiting from it, that's another story altogether.

So no professional writers? Sounds grim.

It is scary. Thankfully, I'm not a native English-speaker because i did a test against AI on a story. The machine incredible aptitude for wording was beyond belief. It completely blew me away, lexicon wise. I still like my version better but i must give credit where credit is due. Very, very impressive bot. 😊

An AI can create a singular interesting work, but it cannot create a portfolio that evolves over time but retains a coherent vision as that requires intention and the AI has none.

Some writing jobs became more algorithmic, which is annoying for me as someone who likes to write creatively. But creative writing jobs still exist, we just have to search for them harder. There are companies that still value humans and human creativity above AI. AI still can offer benefits to us, but we shouldn't depend on it solely.

All of a sudden, it's gotten complicated. Many writers are complaining of plagiarism or worse. And some students are in trouble bc AI is claiming what they wrote is actually theirs and that's infringing on AI copyrights ! Imagine that.

That is wild! I've encountered plagiarism in the company I worked for before, but now dealing with AI plagiarism is cray!

Did a test yesterday. I was about to write a story about a flirty girl appearing on the scene. A public setting. So, i wrote my version and was pretty happy with it. Then on a whim, i asked ai to write it. I have to say, i was seriously impressed. Wow! (I still liked mine better).

Dang. You should share that on your Substack. :O

I thought about it but i decided against it. Besides, the stories differ and mine became something else completely.

I wish that the writing on AI was not leaning so far to the fear side. Your title and subtitle perfectly sum up how I feel about it because that is the true nature of this situation. We really don't know what the implications are now or for the future. Our brains are just filling in gaps at this point. We've got to learn how to adapt just like we did with the introduction of other technologies.

For menial tasks, efficiency and cheap labor will be hard to resist for co like amazon and walmart. It's what we signed for when we adopted the capitalist system. Beyond that, in the creators' world it's a whole new game. Maybe once they find a way to publicly disclose who wrote what on a particular piece of writing, things will improve drastically. We got some lame and lazy "writers" loose in society calling themselves artists, writers or creators . Should we even worry about them? If so, why?
