Dogs. What else can we say about dogs that we haven't already said?
Well, every single story that every dog owner has about their babies. The joys, the adventures, and the support offered when it's needed most. The sorrows, the chaos of life, the breakups. They seem always to be there. Always. The dopamine rush we feel when, out of sadness, we see they are there— every time we raise our heads. They know. They know when we feel that unbearable pain, just as they know when we are comfortable, content, or even ravishingly happy. Dogs don't just know; they sense it seconds before it happens. These amazing souls only care about our well-being; everything else comes second. What a blessing it is to have that kind of company for a best friend!
Some say dogs are held to the highest standards in the US, but I'm not sure if that is true. I've been to countries that treat dogs like the gods that they are; Japan, Argentina, and the EU, particularly Austria and Germany, are among them.
How couldn't they?
Yesterday, I saw a video that made me laugh out loud. A stray was crossing the street limping. As you see the image, you feel incredibly sad. Not only is the poor pup homeless, maybe abandoned, and with such an injury that he can barely walk. Three legs and hopping. Broke my heart. When the dog got to his destination, an offering of something delicious, he took it in his mouth and crossed back to the other side of the street, without the limp!
Totally faked everyone. Dopamine rush again. I was the happiest person in the world at that moment and was thinking, 'What an outstanding hustle!'. Bless his heart. We do what we have to survive. He did the same.
What a fantastic gift and honour it is to have a dog in your life! Do we deserve them? Because we all have seen or heard stories of some disheartened humans taking them for granted. They can be used as tools for their own security, etc. These people have no awakened consciousness to appreciate what they're gifted with. To them, dogs are like furniture; they are useful. That's all. In the meantime, that dog whom you overlook and have no regard for adores you and would die a hundred times over to save you and your family if it came to that. No hesitation, no ifs or buts, no thinking.
The immeasurable love and loyalty these creatures have for us is incalculable. It's rarely seen in other animals, domestic or wild. It just doesn't happen. Not so much.
How can we ever reciprocate or try to duplicate that faithfulness? It's impossible. It's the ultimate expression of unconditional devotion.
Some folk say we don't deserve animals, and most certainly, we don't deserve dogs. I'm not sure about that. It's a blanket statement. It'd be better to say some of us don't deserve them. That'd be more difficult to disagree with. Some should be prohibited from having them. There should be a personhood type of test one would have to pass to take one home. A privilege only reserved for kind, responsible people. We heard what we are capable of—being the wrong kind of human. We know who we are and what we do. And when a human being goes bad, who knows what they might do? Nothing is off-limits, and they love the sickest of all “entrepreneurship”: Dog fighting rings.
A licence to own a pup should be required. That would deter many who don't think they're worth paying a fee for them. “Why should I?" they think. Correct. Why should you? A dog is definitely out of the question if you aren't worthy of owning a heart.
I suppose this article shows a bit of a bias for these amazing creatures, but a lot of you—I'm sure—agree with most of what I say here.
Whoever sent dogs our way, whoever bred them first from their cousins, the wolves deserve all the praise in the world. Thirty thousand-plus years ago, and for the same purpose. Companionship.
Bless all the wonderful people who look after the troubled, abandoned, and mistreated ones. Bless all the heroes who rescue puppies from trash cans. Bless all the ones who neuter and spade street dwellers.
We love you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the authentic heroes.
