I just read this today. It reminded me that the discipline to sit still with no outside distraction or input really helps the mind focus. I am severely ADHD and have struggled to find success.

Meditation is a technique/tool used by nearly every order of monks and thought experts across the spectrum of faiths, arts and sciences. Most creative people are such because of “busy” brains and restlessness. I liken trying to stay focused to corralling kittens.

Your essay on this is the reminder I needed today. I believe that I get what I need when I need it.

Yes, slow down - but don’t give up!

I have lots of reverie moments whether I’m meditation sitting, driving behind the wheel of my car, or sitting in my Archie Bunker chair (we all have one of those!), I plan my life… as much as I have control over that.

At my age I love the CS Lewis quote.

Thank you for all your posts.

Notes is essentially the only way - anyone would know I’m here or still here.. & aside from the other artists spotlit within my site.. can seek readers for fiction & memoir less than 1,000 words - I use Notes as a daily potential to ‘extend’ & connect to certain posts within my site.. or reflect other artists here.. I’m seeking ‘readers .. not pen pals.. and have no hesitation to comment or reply to Notes of others.. haha.. small fish in very giant pond - i take no prisoners.. 🦎🏴‍☠️🇨🇦

I hear you. But did you read the post properly? Not sure that you caught my drift.

will revisit - re-examine .. 🦎🏴‍☠️

there’s several drifts.. Notes interest me - I can’t quite ‘get a volumetric snapshot in my head.. re how many or how few - I can actually ‘see - and how many actually ‘see’ me

Have here & there ‘Note’d some smokin outstanding Works by Astonishing persons.. & not even a sign anyone agreed / disagreed.. or gave a fucknot

Hell, when I’m doin a looksee of Notes - gotta be truly ‘not appealing to me.. to not even get a ‘like from me to show i wuz there 🦎🏴‍☠️🎬

The flip side is notes are good for staying in contact with your readers and a good way to bring in new readers, and buyers for my art in this case.

I totally understand the community aspect and the additional income would be great. I just need to start.

I find myself on Substack instead of Twitter/X.

It is weird because the formats are completely opposite. I haven't started writing because I'm not sure I have anything interesting to say with the word count.

You don't know if you don't try.

.. Twitter ‘word count’ enforced ‘compact communication - brevity - focus.. clarity

(but then so did Command Line Interface - User Groups)

We use our notes really more as “notes to ourselves”. Small ideas, story fragments, a daily meditation. Can see how it could be a huge distraction for writers if used more like a social media platform!

Yes, absolutely. The integration of Notes with the main platform is more favorable, IMO.

You know that old saying- there is a time and place for everything. Does your argument extend to comments? It is one of my favorite forms of distraction! But I do love Substack for the ability to put up words (or in my case ambient video) (with words) and get feedback. Great read - thank you so much!
